Easy Access and Convenient Transport

Five cities in Shaanxi province, namely Xi’an, Yan’an, Yulin, Ankang and Hanzhong, have airports. Of the airports, the Xi’an Xianyang International Airport is the biggest in Northwest China and the fourth biggest around the country.

The Shaanxi section of the Longhai Railway runs through the province, connecting Huashan, Lintong, Xi’an, Xianyang and Baoji. Xi’an, capital city of the province, is linked with Yan’an, Tongchuan and Ankang through railways.

With nine national highways arrange dradially, Shaanxi’s road traffic is centered around Xi’an. The city is the second largest road traffic hub in China, just after Beijing. Express ways have linked Xi’an with such cities as Tongchuan, Huashan, Tongguan, Xianyang andBaoji.


1. How to travel to Shaanxi?

By air
Five cities in Shaanxi province, namely Xi’an, Yan’an, Yulin, Ankang andHanzhong, have airports. Of the airports, the Xi’an Xianyang International Airport is the biggest in Northwest China and the fourth biggest around thecountry. The airport in Yan’an also has a number of flights and routes.
The airports in Ankang and Hanzhong operate the routes between Xi’an and thecities. The Yulin Airport operates routes connecting the city with Beijing aswell as Xi’an.
Located in suburban Xianyang and northwest to X’an, the Xi’an Xianyang International Airport boasts domestic flights from and to cities around thecountry and international ones linking such countries as Japan, Thailand and South Korea. The airport is 47 kilometers from downtown Xi’an and linked with thecity through an expressway. It takes one hour’s drive, or 100 yuan for a taxiride, to reach the airport from Xi’an.


By train
With the Longhai Railway running through the province and other railwayslinking the province with other parts of the country, Shaanxi has built adeveloped passenger rail network. People across the country can take trainsfrom and to the province.

With the Longhai Railway passing through,Xi’an, capital city of Shaanxi, is a railway hub linking North China, EastChina, South-central China and Central China with Southwest and NorthwestChina. The city borders the Xi’an-Houma Railway in the east, the Baoji-Tianshui Railway and the Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway in the northwest, and theBaoji-Chengdu Railway in the southwest. Moreover, the city has built a railnetwork within its jurisdiction, incorporating such railways as Xi’an-Yan’anRailway, Xi’an-Hancheng Railway, Xi’an-Yuxia Railway, Xianyang-TongchuanRailway and Xi’an-Ankang Railway. Residents in the city can travel to big and mediumcities around the country by train.


By road
There are nine expressways and eight national highways running through Shaanxi,making the passenger transport convenient. Xi’an is the second largest roadtransportation hub around the country, just after Beijing.


2. Transportation within Shaanxi

By train
Xi’an, Baoji, Hanzhong and Ankang are four rail hubs in Shaanxi. Someprefecture-level cities and counties are also accessible through railtransportation.


Self-driving
With Xi’an as the center, the road network in Shaanxi runs through the provinceand boasts high-quality roads. Moreover, the traffic on highways is smooth.However, please take caution while driving to Tongchuan, Yan’an or Yulin, allin northern Shaanxi, because many trucks laden with coal can be spotted.


By road
Big cities in Shaanxi generally have coach terminals and plenty of coaches. Butplease be noted that the number of the coaches may be adjusted according toseason, weather, road condition and traffic flow. So please confirm the timefor the coach you are about to take with the terminal in advance to ensure apleasant journey.


By bus
Bus stops can be found at most coach terminals and railway stations in Shaanxiprovince. For some suburban routes, the drivers may skip some stops. Pleasebear in mind the stop you are about to get off and inform the driver orconductor.


By taxi
Taxis are available in most cities and counties in Shaanxi. For rides withincities, most drivers charge the fare according to a fixed pricing system. If youwant to go out of town, please confirm the fare with the driver in advance.
